It might not be a cult or anything as well, people do legitimately have these views. It's dangerous, often has harmful behaviors, but not all the time.
bigger cults, like of a whole church, or whole religion/sect certainly exist, but they're rare, from what I've gathered, compared to situations like a family of 15, with Dad as cult leader, two uncles, older sons all abusing, while the wives are complacent and the kids are all abused and living under the strange rules we associate with cults, "don't talk to anyone, don't make friends", etc etc
I experienced some cultish behaviors but it was just a single relationship, that sort of social isolation of "I'm the only person you're allowed to listen to- other sources aren't allowed, you aren't allowed out"
Donovan, if I can get anything across to you here, my biggest point I think you should take up heart is that you shouldn't trust your feeling and intuition. They're easily fooled. Don't trust your heart and don't sit and count here what you've seen that works.
If you want, trust established study and knowledge that accounts for human error. If you are not willing to trust it, learn to design and run controlled tests on your own.
There almost certainly is. I know of two old time fun members prone to this thing, or with a history of it, which have discord servers, one of whom had a person here chit chatting and sharing things.(edited)
it was clear they were looking for people to prey on, like newbies who don't know better, and there I was like "yeah so I hear you're opening a new server"

these people, who got banned from here for those things, were still in anarchy because, anarchy
I wasn't in the nsfw channels so I can't tell you, and the drug use was rampant, but cult-y stuff, nah, because people will laugh and spit in your face
it happened a lot in the kinning, therian communities, DID I understand a little better because it's so comorbid with other mental illness and tied to dysfunctional childhood
The "being abused makes you turn abusive" is far from a rule but let's just say, when a group of people is fucked up, it tends to make some people who are violent, or manipulative, etc
